Gibbous Moon: LX200 10" f6.3 Fujichrome Sensia 100
Both images have been slightly contrast enhanced to bring out the maria, but are otherwise representative of the sorts of images possible at the 1600mm focal length of this instrument. I would like to acquire a 1.4x teleconverter to allow a roughly 2m focal length for best image scale. It is difficult to get sharp images because of camera vibration and a cable release or self timer is essential and a mirror lockup ideal. Camera lenses in the 600mm-1000mm range will give pleasing and detailed images of the moon under favourable conditions.
A 2x converter is OK for lunar phases less than first quarter or after last quarter, and there is a gain in having a better image scale on the slide if the seeing is reasonably stable.
