Kalmthout is home to a range rare and old specimen trees and is centred on flowering cherries, Rhododendrons, Rosaceae, Acers and a selection of conifers. There is also a small garden centre and cafe. It is located on N117 about 8km from the E19 motorway exit 4 (Antwerp-Breda). It is a rather small turning down a narrow tree lined drive which leads to the carpark. I heard about this place when Gardeners World visited it to see the Japanese flowering cherry trees in bloom. We arrived a bit too late for the best of the cherry blossom, and slightly too early for the best of the rhododendrons and azaleas but there was still plenty to see.

Acers with showy red foliage - there were plenty of colours from lime green to darkest red.

Some of the Japanese flowering cherry trees are very old specimens of huge proportions and covered in bloom.
