Wildlife in the Garden

Woodpecker A slightly stunned green woodpecker recovers from an encounter with a picture window. Rumour has it they are supposed to migrate South for the winter but this one seems happy where he is. DC-120 at 3x zoom. He is a regular visitor to our garden and digs holes in the lawn looking for grubs.
A hawk sat on the lawn with what remains of a former pigeon. 1000mm f10 telephoto in poor light and unfortunately focused slightly behind the bird. Usually all you find afterwards is a circle of feathers, they are rarely caught in the act.
Buddleia flowers attract enormous numbers of insects into the garden and especially butterflies. As does Sedum spectabile later in the season when flowers with copious nectar are less common. 70mm macro lens.
A newly emerged Red Admiral stretches its wings to dry in the sun. 70mm macro lens.
